Their mother had vanished last week, leaving the ducklings alone. The Castle’s staff was worried about their safety, but Fred took it upon himself to keep an eye on them.

Fred provides them with gentle care and comfort.

These nine ducklings hop on Fred’s back and swim in the moat while he keeps an eye on them. They also take naps on the lawn with Fred whenever they can.

Fred could give this kind of attentive attention for just a few more weeks. By then, the ducks will be independent and ready to start a new life on the castle grounds.

Fred’s owner said: “They cherish him to pieces, and he is now content to be a stay-at-home dad raising the nine newborn ducklings.”
